PotashCorp purchases more than $150 million in goods and services in the state each year. In addition, PotashCorp employees represent a great deal of buying power based on the goods and services they purchase annually in eastern North Carolina. Local tax dollars provide the money to create parks and purchase play equipment. Roads are improved or created with tax dollars contributed by PotashCorp. Teams, fields, gymnasiums, and recreation staff are made possible with local tax dollars and contributions. In addition, some of the coaches are provided through employee volunteerism. PotashCorp employees donated more than 2,800 toys in the 2008 annual Christmas Toys for Tots drive. With contributions from more than 700 employees, and the addition of matching company funds, PotashCorp contributed $200,000 to Beaufort County's 2009 annual United Way campaign.
