ENVIRONMENT
PotashCorp believes that mining is a temporary land use and when the mining is complete the work is far from over. That is why we invest millions of dollars and hours into reclamation and wetland mitigation as well as the research behind it all.
You might ask what all these big words mean.
Mitigation: Actual restoration, creation, enhancement or preservation of wetlands to compensate for permitted wetland losses.
Reclamation: Any deliberate attempt to return a damaged ecosystem to some kind of productive use or socially acceptable condition. Usually used when discussing land that has been mined.
Over the past 20 years, PotashCorp has had much success with both our mitigation and reclamation efforts. In fact we’ve successfully restored or created more than 4,300 acres of wetlands during that time.
